Pocket alternative
Pocket shut down. Here's what to do with your list
Pocket, Mozilla's read-it-later app, shut down in 2025. If you had hundreds of saved articles, you're probably looking for a new home for them. Before you pick one, it's worth asking a different question: will you actually read them this time?

What happened to Pocket
Mozilla announced in 2025 that Pocket would close, and the apps stopped working that summer. For a while you could export your saves as a file of links. If you did, keep that file: it's the list of everything you meant to read.
Many people found the same thing when they looked at that file: most of the articles were never opened. Saving is easy. Finding an hour to sit and read is the hard part.
What to look for in a Pocket alternative
- Saving in one tap. A share button in Safari and in other apps, so saving takes no effort.
- Where your list lives. On your device, in an account, or both. And whether you can get it back out.
- What happens offline. Can you open what you saved on a plane or in the subway?
- Whether you'll get to it. A list is only useful if there's a moment in your day to go through it.
There are good read-it-later apps that cover the first three. Leola is built for the fourth: it reads your list to you, so the commute, the walk or the dishes become the moment you finally get through it.
How to move the articles you still care about
- 1
Open your export and pick a few
Look through the list of links and pick the five or ten articles you still want. Skip the rest without guilt.
- 2
Open each one in Safari
Tap a link so the article opens in Safari on your iPhone.
- 3
Share it to Leola
Tap Share, then Leola. The article's text is saved in your library, ready to play.
- 4
Line them up
Add them to the queue or a playlist, like songs. Each one remembers the sentence where you stopped.
From then on, do the same with anything new you find: share it to Leola instead of saving it for a quiet hour that never comes.
How Leola works
- Everything in one library. Articles shared from Safari, pasted text, notes and PDFs (PDFs with Leola Plus).
- Like a music app. A queue, playlists, a mini player, lock screen controls and a sleep timer.
- On your iPhone. No cloud, no account, no credits. Your text never leaves your phone.
- Follow along. The sentence being read is highlighted, so you can look down and find your place.

Questions
Can Leola import my Pocket export file?
No. There's no bulk import. You add articles by sharing them from Safari, one at a time.
Can I still export from Pocket?
Mozilla ran the export for a limited time after the shutdown. If you didn't download yours, check the email Mozilla sent to your Pocket account for details.
What if a page won't share its text?
Some pages hide their text from the share sheet. Select the text in Safari and share the selection to Leola instead.
Is Leola free?
Listening is free: one voice per language, articles, pasted text and notes. Leola Plus adds PDFs, audio downloads, every voice and longer queues.
